Winter Activities in Northern Sweden

Cross-Country Skiing

Cross-Country skiing is an excellent way to get some exercise outdoors in the winter, and the peace and quiet of our trails makes this a tranquil winter activity. Strap on your skis and traverse the extensive network of trails in our Northern Sweden towns. Spot wildlife tracks, appreciate the silence of the snow-covered landscape, and shush through the forest. Cross-country skiing is relatively easy to learn if you’ve never gone before, although we suggest finding a relatively flat trail for your first time;

Snowmobiling

If you’re interested in an outing that gives more of an adrenaline rush, snowmobiling is a fun activity for winter thrill seekers. Snowmobiling is a great way to explore Northern Sweden’s forests and meadows, and you can cover a lot more ground on a snowmobile than on skis. There are a number of companies that will take you out on a snowmobile tour to explore the region, whether you are interested in a full day adventure or just a couple of hours.

Dog Sledding

There’s nothing quite like feeling the rush of the cold air on your face as you glide across the snow-covered landscape by a team of enthusiastic huskies. These dogs live to work, and they are so excited to pull a sled of happy people. A dog sledding adventure through the Arctic wilderness is a bucket list adventure you will not soon forget!

Ice Skating

There are a ton of frozen lakes in Northern Sweden, perfect for ice skating adventures. This peaceful activity is a wonderful way to embrace the cold, and it’s a great activity for all ages and skill levels. Bundle up, strap on some skates, and enjoy gliding across a frozen lake or ice rink.

Northern Lights Viewing

Wintertime in Northern Sweden is an ideal time to witness the incredible Northern Lights. This natural phenomenon paints the night sky with green dancing colors, and it’s something that people in other parts of the world only dream about seeing. The longer winter nights and the low light pollution of Northern Sweden make this area prime for viewing the beautiful Northern Lights. Check out the local forecast to find your best changes of viewing the lights, and head outside on a clear winter evening to be truly amazed!
